Catch an IMSI Catcher from your Android

What's a IMSI Catcher?
IMSI-Catchers are false mobile towers acting between the target mobile phone(s) and the real towers of service providers.

With an IMSI catcher the target’s communications – calls, text messages, location, Internet traffic, etc. – go through the IMSI-catcher and can be collected and read or listened on. In the same time, the victim is oblivious to the fact that this is happening, because, to them, it looks like everything is working normally. In the field of security, this is called a man-in-the-middle (MitM) attack.

Commonly these are used by police and intelligence services. In the USA the IMSI-Catcher technology is known under the name "StingRay" or an advanced 4G version called "Crossbow". This is a major privacy issue because everyone's mobile device has to go to the IMSI catcher just to get information on one suspect.

Hackers can also create an IMSI catcher for $7 (pictured below) and use a drone to exploit as many mobile devices as possible. This allows them to have access to your internet traffic, usernames, and passwords. Using a VPN and switching on the "block everything not going through VPN" in android settings will encrypt your data from everything. And using Signal along with your contacts your sending SMS and video chats will also be encrypted.
